Filosofi Ikan Mas Arsik Dalam Upacara Adat Perkawinan Masyarakat Batak Toba

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the philosophical meaning, cultural values, and the role of Ikan Mas Arsik in traditional Batak Toba wedding ceremonies, as well as to understand the level of awareness among younger generations regarding this tradition. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, using data collection techniques such as observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and literature review. The informants consist of both older and younger generations within the Naposobulung community. The results indicate that Ikan Mas Arsik holds deep philosophical meaning as a symbol of harmony, balance, and blessings in married life, based on the principle of Dalihan Na Tolu. Furthermore, it embodies ethical, aesthetic, social, and spiritual values that strengthen Batak Toba cultural identity. However, the study finds that younger generations show a declining understanding of these meanings due to modernization and lack of cultural education. In conclusion, Ikan Mas Arsik remains a crucial element in traditional wedding customs that must be preserved. Therefore, active roles from families and communities are needed to provide cultural education and innovation to maintain its relevance among younger generations.
