Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of the Punjungan tradition in shaping the culinary identity of the community in Jatiharjo Village, Jatipuro District, Karanganyar Regency. The research method used is a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis through observation, interviews, and documentation. The informants consist of village officials, community leaders, and local residents. The results show that the Punjungan tradition plays an important role in transmitting social values such as mutual cooperation, solidarity, and respect, which are reflected in collective culinary activities. Furthermore, the culinary characteristics of this tradition demonstrate strong connections with temporal aspects, geographical environment, local knowledge, and cultural meanings. The SWOT analysis reveals that the tradition has strengths in preserved cultural values and opportunities for development through social media and local culinary businesses, but also faces weaknesses such as economic burdens and threats from modern lifestyle changes among younger generations. In conclusion, the Punjungan tradition significantly contributes to shaping local culinary identity. Therefore, preservation efforts through documentation, youth education, and culinary development based on tradition are recommended to ensure its sustainability.
